IMPRISONED ON THE ISLAND OF JAVA A Thousand Dreams in Papua
By: Muhammad Ari Pratomo
In the remote areas of Papua, behind the beauty of the untouched nature, lies the true story of a struggle of a child named Sugeng. Since childhood, he only knew makeshift schooling, with a teacher who came once a month and tattered books. Yet, his dreams never faded: he wanted equal education for all Indonesian children. His dreams led Sugeng to FIGHT, "imprisoned" in the land of Java. There, he faced various challenges, from longing for his hometown to being mocked for his different accent. But, behind all that, Sugeng found something valuable: knowledge.
This book is not just an inspiring story about a child. It is a heartfelt cry about the inequity of education in the borderlands. It is a loud voice about the importance of our role, from teachers to the government, to ensure that every child, no matter where they are, receives the same rights. "Imprisoned in Java, A Thousand Dreams in Papua" is a reminder that education is a right, not a luxury. Sugeng's story will open your eyes, touch your heart, and move your soul to be part of the change.
Read, feel, and let this story be the beginning of a thousand dreams that you will fight for.
