A dental implant is a prosthesis that connects to the bone of jaw or skull to support a dental prosthesis, like crown, bridge, denture, and facial prosthesis. The biological process called osseointegration, in which materials like titanium or zirconia develop an intimate contact with bone, is the foundation of modern dental implants. The health of the person receiving treatment, medicines that impact osseointegration, and the health of the tissues in the mouth play a crucial role in the success or failure of implants. The fundamental use of dental implants is to support dental prosthetics. The risks and problems associated with implant dentistry are divided into three categories.
