Image & Echo by Kieran Beville
Where paintings speak, poetry answers.
Step into a gallery unlike any other-one where Monet's dawn mist, Van Gogh's turbulent stars, Kahlo's fierce gaze, and Botticelli's divine Venus are not just seen, but heard. In Image & Echo , poet and scholar Kieran Beville enters into dialogue with some of the world's greatest artworks through the timeless craft of ekphrastic poetry.
More than simple description, these sonnets, blank-verse meditations, and lyrical monologues inhabit the worlds the paintings create-listening for what the brushstrokes whisper, questioning what the colors conceal. Alongside each poem, Beville provides vivid reflections on the history and meaning of the artworks, offering both insight and inspiration.
From the hushed farewell on Burton's Meeting on the Turret Stairs to the storm-lit brilliance of Van Gogh's Starry Night , from the still sands of Gauguin's Tahiti to the unflinching self-portrait of a wounded visionary, Image & Echo is a journey across centuries, styles, and souls.
