The US democracy ideologues are seriously impeding US and global political and socioeconomic progress. This is because they are stubbornly holding on to their old ideas of how the world should work and should be run. As for the democracy much touted by the West, there are certainly many different versions of it in Europe, America, Asia, and Africa. Some of these are only marginally democratic because of infrequent elections, biased elections, and frequent military coups. USA is at a critical crossroads with its toxic confrontational politics and conflict-driven politics of the likes of Trump and Biden, and the upcoming highly contested presidential election. What happens next will affect USA as well as the whole world. The stakes are extremely high indeed. Hopefully, US voters will send a clear signal to their politicians to avoid causing more confrontation and damage to USA and the world.
