Pauline Ladden realizes that her boyfriend Tray is not what he seems to be. Just before graduation she breaks up with him to fulfill her own dreams of getting a doctorate. While at college, she discovers that one of her former classmates loves her. Mike also wants to achieve his own doctorate together. Together they struggle and finally receive their goals. When they marry they set out with their plans for a happy life, but tragedy strikes after a year of marriage. Pauline vows that no mater what she will love Mike always.
