"Against the horrors of history, these poems seek to give urgent voice to the women so often erased from the record. In Leibowitz's imagination, time periods collapse; the Annunciation or the trial of Artemisia Gentileschi have all the freshness and verve of today. 'Teach me what to do with these pink obligations, ' she asks in a poem. In the truest sense of ecphrasis , Leibowitz speaks out of these pictures to the fragility and endurance of faith and of art. -Richie Hofmann , PhD, Pushcart Prize recipient and author of Second Empire (2015)
"As lush in its imagery as it is uniquely precise, HYPATIA AT THE MUSEUM grants new agency to the archetypal maiden. These intricately-wrought poems glimmer, swell, and burst with talent. M.G. Leibowitz has given us all a true gift." -Leslie Sainz , 2019 National Poetry Series Finalist
