Terror and violent death haunt the remote wilderness of the Catlins, deep in New Zealand's South Island. An animal kills only for food—but the killer in the Catlins is no animal. This is something far more dangerous… and far more deliberate.
Gloria Stuart is found murdered in her isolated farmhouse in the Clutha Valley, the victim of a savage attack. Her husband, Angus, is discovered nearby—unconscious, bloodied, and drunk. The verdict is swift: guilty. Life imprisonment.
Their only son, Andrew, sixteen and already estranged from his father, walks away from it all—carrying grief, anger, and a hatred that hardens over time.
Fourteen years later, Angus is released. He returns home… only to be found dead a week later, hanging in the hallway. A final note begs his son for forgiveness.
Andrew comes back to settle the estate and sell the land—but something isn't right.
Someone has been tending his mother's grave.
And in the valley, fear has not died.
Some secrets were never buried.
