A story of knights and castles, honor and treachery, kings and peasants, and love and revenge. A young woman, Christine Vandellé, travels one day at the wrong time and alone. She is attacked by five thieves along the road who try to kill her. While practically looking death straight in the eye, an unknown traveler on horseback rescues her single handedly with great skill. Her hero then runs off without a word. When she discovers him two years later, she finds him more mysterious than ever. She can see that he comes from a world of troubles, and she feels a yearning to help him. In doing so, she finds him more mysterious than she ever could have imagined, realizing that in this wounded warrior is a beautiful man who never had the chance to come out.
