A young woman from Germany comes to a family farm in the Midwest for a summer internship. She develops a business plan, and her employer issues a challenge: come back after you graduate, and show me that you can do it. She accepts, much to the chagrin of his wife and sons. She eventually sets out on her own, building a reputation as a breeder and trustworthy businesswoman, and earning industry awards. She mentors two female interns from Sweden who share a love of agriculture and livestock farming with her. The new arrivals cause the local rumor mill to shift into high gear. Changes in the industry force her and her customers out of business. Only in retrospect does she realize how slim the odds of success truly were. She is profoundly grateful to her new home country for the opportunity to live a life according to her own design.
