It would be a pleasant thing for travellers--a good thing for the landlord--and not a bad thing for the said stags--if the hotel was a little nearer the lake; not that the house wants what Dr. Granville said the Belle-Vue at Brussels wanted--a washing--for a cleaner house cannot be; and it may be as well to state, for the information of those who cannot pruiez-vans, that M. Suter, the landlord; speaks English like a native; and, moreover, is remarkably civil and personally attentive; gives good fare, and charges moderately:--Tabled''hote, at live o''clock, three francs; bed, two francs; breakfast, one franc ten sous. l am the more anxious to do justice to the proprietor of this house, because he is placed in a situation without, l may say, a rival, where he might take every advantage of travallers. The opinion that l_ formed of this hotel is corroborated by Lord and Lady Lorton (who remained a week here), and many other highly distinguished individuals, whose names and opinions are recorded in the strangers'' book. Boats may be hired to Art; the distance, either by the lake or road, is two leagues. The average time by the boat is two hours and a half; the diligence occupies one hour and a half; fare, twelve batz. The hire of a boat to Art, for three rowers, its two francs each person, when more than one.
