Dan Dougherty is an American poet whose work speaks plainly and powerfully to the quiet ache of everyday life. His poems wrestle with the small devastations—loss, longing, guilt—that come with simply trying to get by. With a casual, conversational style and an eye for the ordinary, Dougherty renders the familiar freshly felt. Whether he’s confronting a silent God, revisiting moments of tenderness, or mapping rugged Western landscapes onto the fault lines of human connection, his poetry sidesteps the dense obscurity of modern verse in favor of clarity, intimacy, and emotional honesty. Marked by plainspoken lyricism and a steady, unflinching tone, Dougherty’s work invites readers in rather than shutting them out—making it both approachable and quietly profound.
