Excerpt from Goethes Hermann Und Dorothea There are several annotated editions of Hermann and Dorothea available for the American student, and yet I am glad to add this new one to a most creditable list of predecessors. Its Vocabulary is designedly complete, that the book may be used by those who have not proceeded far with the study of the German classics. For like reason the Notes are intended to explain passages and construc tions familiar to those who have dealt for some time with the syntactical difficulties of more advanced Ger man prose and poetry. The Repetitional Exercises (fragen) based upon the text will be found helpful, if they are used as suggested below (page vii). They will certainly afford the teacher Opportunity to give his class some much-needed drill in the ready use of the idiom which it is attempting to master, and will assist the student in appreciating the beauty and structure of the text as nothing else could. No bibliography has been attempted, other than to mention a few readily accessible books, for long lists of titles in an edition of this nature have ever seemed to me absurd. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in our edition. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
