How does a father teach his son that he will be hated because he is black? One option is not to have a son in the first place. But what if God had not sent His Son into this world of hate to show us how to love? Through a collection of poems and a short story, a song emerges that explores these questions. Lament and promise harmonize into a memoir describing the re-birth of a warrior poised to teach all sons they can be loved. The collection revolves around a black man wanting to pass on life lessons to his son, while simultaneously lamenting that he does not want to bring a son into a world of racial violence and hate; and realizing that God sent His Son into the world to conquer these forces with sacrificial love.
