Frencholic – Reality behind the French dream
France looks like a dream from the outside.
For Arnold Verhoeven, it became something very different.
Leaving the Netherlands behind, he started a new life on the French Riviera as a hotelier. What followed was not a postcard version of France, but a reality filled with contradictions, unexpected encounters, and situations that often defy logic.
With a sharp eye for human behaviour and a dry sense of humour, Verhoeven takes the reader behind the scenes of life in France. Charming at times, absurd at others, and occasionally confrontational, these stories reveal what really happens when you stop visiting a country and start living there.
Frencholic is not a travel guide. It is a personal account of what lies behind the French dream.
