Two missing persons. One haunted investigator. No such thing as coincidence.
Fresh off launching Nike City's first private facilitating agency, Gideon Quinn hasn't even hung a sign before a friend from Lower Cadbury begs for help. Several of the district's most vulnerable squatters have gone missing—and no one else is looking.
Gideon takes the case, with his apprentice Mia tagging along for a crash course in fieldwork. But when a woman from his past appears with a second disappearance—this time a high-ranking Corps officer with a long history of antagonizing Gideon—the job takes a darker, more personal turn.
As he digs into both mysteries, Gideon uncovers a tangled web of secrets, revenge, and corruption that reaches deeper than he ever imagined. With lives on the line and ghosts of his past closing in, Gideon must decide how far he's willing to go—and who he's willing to lose—to bring the missing home.
Welcome to Gideon Quinn & Associate's, where the clients are broke, the cases are strange, and coincidences are as dead as Earth.
Readers respond to Fortune's Fool:
"Absolutely, unreservedly recommended."
"I laughed out loud, several times."
"…exceptional world-building, and characters which are continually fleshed-out which each novel…"
"I'm already looking forward to the curtain rising on the next act."
