Death comes too soon for some and too late for others, but in the end it does come for us all. Yet we spend much of our lives ignoring it, fearing it, or attempting to postpone it. But if death is inescapable, how should Christians prepare? Centuries ago, medieval Christians developed a guide to dying well known as "the art of dying" ( ars moriendi , in Latin) that the Protestant Reformers developed further. In this compassionate and hopeful book, Robert Kolb recovers and adds to this rich tradition to help Christians face the shadow of death in the light of the resurrection. Reflecting on Scripture, hymns, and his own personal experience, he walks with you through the valley, reminding you every step of the way that the risen Jesus shines brighter than the thickest darkness. If you have received a dire diagnosis, are walking alongside the dying, or are simply trying to come to grips with your own mortality and wisely number your days, Kolb will show you how to focus on the comfort provided by our risen Lord, who alone has the words of life.
