Two rival hockey players. One fake relationship. A truth neither of them planned to feel.
Beckett Vance has spent ten years perfecting the art of disappearing in plain sight. Traded to the Hartwell Narwhals mid-season, he does what he always does — surveys the room, finds the safe angle, and gives away nothing. He's good at management. He built an entire life on it. The one thing he never manages is the way his eyes keep finding Rafferty Doran.
Rafferty is everything Beckett isn't: loose where Beckett is locked down, warm where Beckett is careful, and impossible to read on the ice or off it. He's also been quietly watching Beckett's game film for three years — professionally , he tells himself. When the team's PR machine needs a story, the two of them get handed one: a managed, camera-ready coming-out. A relationship for the brand. A fake thing with clear rules.
Rule one: keep it professional. Rule two: don't catch feelings. Rule three: nobody gets hurt.
They break them in the wrong order.
Because the arrangement stops being an arrangement somewhere between a shared hotel room, a hand at the small of a back that no camera can see, and a blanket laid over a sleeping man by someone who swore he wasn't ready. And when a journalist starts asking whether the league's most talked-about couple is real — or the most calculated play in franchise history — Beckett has to decide whether the truth is worth more than the version of himself he's protected since he was sixteen.
