Too many close calls prompt globe-trotting, award-winning photojournalist Avery Sloane to ditch covering world news to join a school friend at a small rural newspaper. Little does Avery know, she may have survived a war zone, but nosing around small town secrets could get her killed.
Avery has hung up her cameras and been living her dream in Kentucky's legendary horse country, except she's suspecting her peace and quiet has come at a cost. She's been gamely enduring months of covering community news and feature stories, as well as the watchful eyes of people cordial to her face but eager for her, the new stranger in town, to commit any juicy sin.
Late one Saturday night, a passer-by at the county fairgrounds discovers the battered, murdered remains of the night's horse show judge.
Avery drives out to cover the breaking news. She soon discovers inquiries from a friendly outsider, always her go-to approach, are less than welcome. Even her editor questions her determination.
Soon, police find a suspect Avery has good reason to believe is innocent.
Undeterred, she pursues her own investigation, risks her friendships both new and old, and discovers secrets guarded for generations.
The fierce defenders of the age-old secrets and the long-revered traditions of the past will stop at nothing to prevent Avery from revealing the truth.
In a race against time, can Avery unmask the murderers before they kill her first?
Readers who like Patricia McLinn's character Elizabeth Danniher from the Caught Dead in Wyoming series and Greg Iles's character Caitlynn Masters from his Natchez series will enjoy Fatal Image . It's also a perfect read for fans of TV's Broadchurch and Justified.
Will Avery be strong enough to face what's she's about to find? Grab your copy now and head to Kentucky where traditions, secrets, and danger awaits.
