In January 1991, as Operation Desert Storm builds toward its ground campaign, a U.S. Army recon platoon arrives in Saudi Arabia carrying rifles, chemical masks, letters from home, and the quiet fear every soldier learns to hide.
Private First Class Tommy Bell and the men of Viper Two-One are sent to an observation post near the Iraqi border, where they wait through Scud alerts, distant explosions, chemical warfare drills, and the endless thunder of aircraft moving north. Then the order comes: cross Phase Line Copper, move toward Objective Razor, and locate forward Iraqi units before the main force begins its push.
What starts as a reconnaissance mission becomes a fight for survival. Beyond the line, the platoon discovers more than an isolated enemy screen. Hunted in the dark, trapped by bad ground, and forced to defend long enough to bring every man home, Viper Two-One must rely on discipline, brotherhood, and courage under fire.
Written by Desert Storm veteran Mike Bennett, Forward of the Line is a gritty military novel about fear, duty, sacrifice, and the bond between soldiers who carry the weight of war long after the shooting stops.
It is a story of the men sent ahead, the truth they bring back, and the long road home.
