When twenty-three-year-old Oscar Gamble is evicted in his underwear, clutching only a 300-page manuscript detailing a World Trade Center government cover-up, his solution is simple: go to New York and become famous. Instead, a manic breakdown leaves him naked on a Manhattan street corner and landed directly in a hospital psychiatric unit.
Diagnosed with bipolar disorder, Oscar enters a strange new world populated by colorful, forgotten souls. Among them is Gilda-a alluring, fiercely intelligent, and deeply volatile young woman who challenges his wildest delusions and nudges him back toward reality.
When Gilda is discharged and invites Oscar into her Upper East Side apartment, a fresh start seems finally within reach. Oscar lands a job, discards his defining obsessions, and falls deeply in love. But outside the safe confines of the hospital, Gilda's own unmedicated demons begin to spiral out of control.
As her behavior grows increasingly unpredictable and her demands push Oscar toward dark, dangerous boundaries, he tries desperately to protect her-only to learn how razor-thin the line is between saving someone and losing them forever.
