Coles Everyday Football Fandoms in Zimbabwe: In Search of Community and Belonging at Village Green Shopping Centre in Vernon, BC
*Product information may vary - to confirm product availability, pricing, shipping and return information please contact Coles
This book explores football fandom in Zimbabwe as an everyday social practice through which ordinary supporters make sense of their lives, relationships and wider social conditions. It moves attention away from elite competitions, football governance, and global football economies, towards the emotions, loyalties, and rivalries that shape supporter life in conditions of economic hardship, political uncertainty, and rapid digital change. Early chapters set out how football fandom is organised in Zimbabwe and why clubs matter so much to local identity. Later chapters take up rivalry and humour on the terraces, gender relations and the place of women in supporter culture, religion and faith among fans, migration and the attachments of Zimbabweans abroad, and the growth of online fan communities. Written mainly by scholars embedded in Zimbabwean football cultures, this collection offers an African-centred contribution to football fandom research, sport and society, cultural sociology and African studies.
