In her book, Gloria Mejía invites us to embark on a journey through history, food, language, and the American dream, exploring borders and shared humanity. Each chapter begins with insights inspired by Maslow's hierarchy of needs and features reflections from diverse participants answering three key questions about what it means to be American. As an immigrant, she often pondered why "American" is primarily linked to the United States despite America being much broader.
Adapting to a new environment is challenging for immigrants and their descendants. This book aims to inspire you to embrace your cultural identity, celebrate diversity, and recognize our shared humanity.
