It is the story of young Frank Fowler, who is orphaned at a young age and must fend for himself. Frank is a hard-working and honest boy, and he eventually finds a job as a clerk in a store. One day, Frank witnesses a robbery and helps to apprehend the robbers. This act of bravery brings him to the attention of Mr. Randolph, a wealthy merchant. Mr. Randolph is impressed by Frank's honesty and courage, and he offers him a job as his private secretary.Frank accepts Mr. Randolph's offer, and he quickly becomes indispensable to his new employer.
