Wide Area Networks is a very progressive topic in the sense of principles, process, data rates, and usability. There are so many new topics and terms that must be explained. PSTN and POTS was followed from PDH, ATM and SDH. Beside those technologies there are the access networks, core networks, optical networks, IP networks, intelligent networks, next generation networks and last but not least the mobile communications networks.
