First published in 1916, ‘Democracy and Education: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Education’ by Dewey, an American philosopher, psychologist, and academic reformer whose ideas have been compelling in education and social reform. He was one of the most distinguished American scholars in the first half of the twentieth century.
In this, Dewey examines the role of general education in a democracy and the diverse strategies for gaining a quality education. After its initial publication, this book initiated a revolution in educational thought; one that highlighted development, understanding, and action as pivotal factors in facilitating democratic qualities in students and educators alike.
