This medieval work provides a historical account of Clotarius, a Frankish king, and his son Dagobert. It details Clotarius's military prowess against the Saxons, his character as a pious ruler, and Dagobert's upbringing under Bishop Arnulf. The narrative also includes the martyrdom of Dionysius and his companions, the construction of a chapel by Genevieve, and a significant event where a deer, pursued by Dagobert, finds refuge in the martyrs' shrine, symbolizing divine protection. Additionally, it touches on the death of Dagobert's mother, Queen Berthedrud, and Clotarius's subsequent remarriage.
