Excerpt from Cumberland Parish Registers, Vol. 2: Marriages The second volume of the Marriage Registers of Cumber land, containing the records of four parishes, is now placed in the hands of the subscribers, and the Editors hope to continue this series until all the Registers of the County have been printed down to the year 1837, when Civil Registration began. The entries are printed in abstract form as before, and the same contractions are used as in the previous volume. It must be borne in mind that the existing early Registers are themselves but transcripts, made under the order of Elizabeth in 1597, from the original paper Registers.
