Since the release of the Da Vinci Code in 2003, Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper painting has come under intense scrutiny. Millions of people are fascinated by the possibility that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had children. Discoveries of hundreds of Last Supper Art pieces portraying a woman sitting next to Jesus have come to light, many predate Leonardo’s world-famous painting. A close study of the Gospel of John reveals the existence of a mysterious ‘Beloved Disciple’, a catalyst for Da Vinci’s version. John reveals that the disciple ‘whom Jesus loved’ and Saint Peter, the traditional head of the church, were involved in a power struggle for the leadership role after the crucifixion. Saint John describes the Beloved Disciple as a writer and teacher of truth. This description denotes an expanded view of Mary Magdalene. Mary was the Apostle to the Apostles, a belief expressed by numerous Church fathers.
