In Campsight, Iain Eastman, a cantankerous high school science teacher, drops his curmudgeonly façade to explain the beauty of wasting time outdoors. Whether tapping maple trees, accidentally flooding neighborhood yards, or butchering the butchering of a deer, Eastman manages to connect to the outdoors in a way usually reserved for park rangers and maybe hermits. In this collection of 30 nature essays set against the backdrop of "camp" - his hunting cabin in Northwestern Pennsylvania - Eastman teaches his children the joys and pains (the many, many pains) of hunting, fishing, gardening, and other outdoor pursuits.
