Bushy Sukolt's childhood unfolds on the edge of danger, where grief, wilderness, and frontier grit shape a true-life romance of remarkable courage. After her father's business fails and her mother dies, the determined four-year-old hides in his wagon to join him for a new life in the Rocky Mountains, bringing with her a fierce devotion, a child's funny logic, and an unshakable trust in God and her father. From the Great Pine Mine to the long wagon journey west, Bushy becomes the beloved mascot of miners, doctors, and trail companions, with her cat Pete, her pony Jip, and her lively antics adding warmth and humor to a harsh world. Yet the story never softens the dangers: Indian attacks, mine accidents, and a sudden powder-keg threat test everyone's nerve, while Bushy's brave ride for help and the men's steadfast defense turn peril into action. Along the way, loss teaches her obedience, training builds her independence, and the frontier transforms her into a resourceful girl ready for whatever lies ahead. This edition has been fully restored with modern typesetting, custom cover design.
