A small town has been set upon by a mysterious, seemingly-sentient black cloud that snatches up anyone who stays outside for more than a few minutes. A motley group of kids stuck in their school try to enjoy whatever short recess time their one remaining teacher grants them each day. But one recess sends things too far over the edge for a small number of them who leave the school and set off on a doomed journey to find safety, hope, family, answers, and above all, a way to stop the unknowable violence that daily terrorizes their lives.
