Beyond Saigon River reveals the unforgettable life of Lay Van Huynh, a South Vietnamese Navy radioman on HQ-11, whose courage carried him through war, exile, and the uncertain future after April 30, 1975.
Section I: The Sailor Named Lay traces Jim's escape from a collapsing homeland to a quite corner of Pennsylvania, where he rebuilt his life from a busboy's apron to a 25-year career with the School District of Philadelphia. In powerful, intimate poetry, he reflects on survival, faith, family, and the immigrant journey born from loss and hope.
Section II: Brothers in the Mud is a solemn tribute to the ARVN and American Soldiers thos who fought, those who returned, and those forever missing. Jim's words become a vessel carrying memory across oceans, weaving together east and west, past and present, grief and gratitude.
