Why do majority of drivers promptly slow down on city or major highways when a police car is sported riding slightly ahead in traffic? Because drivers knew that the person behind the wheel is duly commissioned to enforce traffic laws. The officer might be off-duty at the time, however; he or she can still pull you over and for that, many are not tempted to speed ahead of his vehicle. The moment the officer exited; everyone picks up speed as if collectively saying, "There goes the man." And do you ever wonder why it happens that way? It is because the presence of the police car represents authority. Sometimes though, there might be a driver tempted to drive faster than the officer who is purposefully driving as a pace car for everyone else. Then suddenly, off goes the blue lights and sirens. We all have egos deep as the depth of Niagara Falls. By law, anything over speed limit, at the discretion of the officer, you can be ticketed.
