"Why are you writing this book?" I couldn't remember being asked that question so directly. Because in third grade I wrote an assignment about my future and said I would become an author? Because I'm stubborn? Or maybe because I carted around a pack-pack full of books, even before learning to read? That's all part of it. But the truth I quickly arrived at: books are magic. One sentence on the page of a book can change your life. Writing has gotten me through the darkness. If one sentence makes you feel seen, if one sentence makes you think, then the goal is complete.
