The story is set in A.D. 54, about two decades after the crucifixion of Jesus. It is framed as a memoir or retrospective account written by a fictional character, a Jewish scholar and traveler, who claims to have met Jesus during his lifetime. This scholar offers a detailed and nuanced portrayal of Jesus, contrasting with the more familiar accounts found in the New Testament.Throughout the novel, the protagonist reflects on his encounters and observations of Jesus, presenting him as a remarkable yet human figure whose teachings and actions left a profound impact on those who knew him. The narrative explores the historical and cultural context of Jesus's life, providing insights into the political, social, and religious milieu of first-century Judea.
