This treasured coming-of-age story chronicles the journey of a little red-headed orphan, Anne Shirley, as she struggles to settle into her new life on Prince Edward Island. Anne Shirley is just eleven-years-old when she is mistakenly sent to the Cuthbert's Farm in place of the boy they requested. Aging siblings, Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, decide to give the orphan a chance and agree to let her stay so long as she helps with the farmwork. Hot-headed, strong-willed and armed with a loose tongue, Anne soon finds herself running into trouble. She takes the peaceful Avonlea community by storm, disturbing the steady rhythm of the villagers' life. Stubborn and keen to make a life for herself, Anne begins to make lifelong friends (and enemies) in this much-loved coming-of-age classic. Initially published in 1908, Lucy Maud Montgomery brings the quick-witted and vividly imaginative Anne to life in this endearing children's novel. Incorporating themes of friendship, nature, morality and ambition, Anne of Green Gables has been loved for generations. Read & Co. Children's is proud to have republished this wonderful edition of Anne of Green Gables . Complete with an introductory author biography, this novel is the ideal gift for ambitious young girls with a love of adventure.
