In early 2020, Caro Harmer prepares an elaborate birthday luncheon for her unfaithful husband and, without warning or explanation, leaves the house.
While her family are feasting on sumptuous seafood platters and quaffing carefully selected vintage wines, Caro is happily jetting overseas. She takes pains to cover her tracks and proves to be impossible to locate.
When Covid-19 hits, Caro's self-absorbed relatives are left to come to terms with successive lockdowns and a series of confronting revelations, while still unable to unravel the mystery behind Caro's disappearance.
Soon after the lifting of Australia's international travel restrictions in 2022, Caro's business partner, Helen, flies to Paris in an attempt to understand the reason behind her friend's disappearance. Helen is surprised to discover that the person best able to shed light on Caro's mystery is someone much closer to home.
