Have you ever wondered what it's like to work with people struggling with life-threatening illnesses? This unique and intriguing collection of poems by Dr. Laura A. Hawryluck provides a tantalizing glimpse into the most personal moments lived within intensive care units (ICUs). The reader is transported to the treatment rooms and the descriptions are so vivid, of both the physical and emotional atmosphere that they feel they have experienced the scene themselves. Each poem explores the love and courage, the fears and heartbreaks in an environment where social masks are stripped away and honesty and humanity are laid bare.Perhaps an unexpected subject for poetry, the life and reflections of an ICU Doctor is captivated within each poem and ultimately explores insights about life and love, what matters and what makes us who we are.
