He didn't fit in among the elite… until there was a murder to solve.
Antioch, 100 AD. Captain Antonius Sabas understands his place in society. He's risen in rank in the Vigiles, but the mixed-race Greco-Syrian man of few words prefers his own company to that of the rich and powerful.
When an heiress is murdered in broad daylight, the victim's family grants him permission to investigate. So why do they refuses to cooperate? Laboring to find fault with any of the suspects, the cynical detective teams up with his bibliophile brother and a disowned Jewish woman to sift through half-truths and secrets, while an attempt on his life triggers personal demons endangering his pursuit of justice.
Can Captain Sabas unravel a tangled web of deception and greed before the killer strikes again?
An Evil Planned is the twisty first book in the "Murder in Ancient Rome" historical mystery series. If you like complex plots, painstakingly researched detail, and classical settings, then you'll love Theo Faurez's clever whodunit. 532 pages.
