Coles An Apology for the Life of Mrs. Shamela Andrews at Village Green Shopping Centre in Vernon, BC

A biting parody of the sentimental novels of its time, this work reimagines the "virtue" of a popular heroine as a calculated pursuit of social climbing. Shamela uses her supposed modesty to entrap a wealthy gentleman, exposing the hypocrisy and greed beneath a facade of piety. Fielding’s sharp satire deconstructs the literary tropes of his era with hilarious and cynical precision. It is a bold, subversive take on morality and the art of the hustle.
