Can one person change the course of history? The son of a slaveholder, Samuel Dawson abhors slavery. In 1857, Samuel challenges the paradigms of Southern culture by befriending Will, an enslaved boy his father has recently purchased. Samuel's father demands that Samuel end the friendship but can offer no rational reason for doing so. When Samuel is put in charge of his father's plantation, the son begins an audacious experiment. He treats the slaves as human beings. Facing overwhelming criticism and hostility, Samuel must make a life-altering decision. He can succumb to the pressure to conform, or he can pursue his vision of what is right. All Men are Created Equal is an inspiring story of courage and independence in the face of monumental challenges.
