My teaching career at the elementary and high school spanned 28 years, the last 12 years of that period involved working with students at the high school level in Atikokan, Ontario, in a program called the Alternate Learning Program. The last year before retirement we decided to "tell our story" and leave a legacy behind us in the form of short stories written by the students about their lives. The language was their own, but the stories had to be true and could be about anything they wanted to write about. I wrote a 10 page introduction about the workings of the class and the students wrote 179 short stories about their lives. This book, All I Can Give You Is Me , gives great insight into teaching and "conveys the emotional reality of teenage years in a way rarely seen". Joseph Marohnic
