For years, Ahmed has had the same impossible dream.
A hurricane will destroy the military prison where he has been held for years. He will reach the sea, swim to Cuba, disappear among people whose language he does not speak, and somehow find his way home to his daughter.
Then one night, the hurricane comes.
The prison begins to break.
And Ahmed discovers that dreaming about escape is much easier than surviving it.
Swept into a violent sea, he finds himself fighting for his life alongside José, a prison guard who suddenly needs Ahmed as much as Ahmed needs him.
What follows is an unlikely journey through Cuba: two men stripped of the roles that once defined them, learning to survive, disappear, and trust each other long enough to find a way home.
Ahmed and the Hurricane is a graphic novel about captivity, survival, friendship, and the strange distance between the freedom we imagine and the freedom we actually find.
