What happens when your little sister takes your favourite toy without asking-and gives him a completely unexpected makeover? Anansi is furious when he discovers that his sister, Sewa, has been playing with his favourite toy. Sewa, meanwhile, cannot understand what all the fuss is about. Before long, a missing toy has turned into a very big sibling disagreement. Adventures of Anansi and Sewa: The Missing Black Panther is a lively and humorous picture story about two siblings learning how to navigate sharing, boundaries, hurt feelings and family conflict. As Anansi and Sewa work through their disagreement, young readers are encouraged to think about asking permission before taking someone else's belongings, learning to share, questioning assumptions about what boys and girls can play with, apologizing when they are wrong, and forgiving one another. Drawing on the rich West African and Caribbean storytelling traditions associated with Anansi, while placing its young characters in a contemporary family setting, the story brings cultural storytelling together with experiences children will recognize from their own lives. Ideal for children ages 4-8, The Missing Black Panther is well suited to family reading, classrooms, libraries and discussions about sibling relationships, sharing, respect and getting along.
