I was twenty-two years old and had changed majors more often than Taylor Swift changes boyfriends. Then I made the wisest decision I possibly could have, by enrolling in a study abroad program in a small city in the heart of Mexico. Between excursions to fascinating sights such as Frida Cahlo's original home, to Xochimilco's Floating Gardens in Mexico City, to hiking up some of the oldest and largest pyramids in the world, I had the chance to set my feet in places I had only read about in history class. And while trading frostbite for tropical breezes, exhaust fumes for active volcanos, and deciphering snow emergency schedules for learning a new language, I was thrown into situations that forced me to step out of my comfort zone and experience new ways of looking at life.
