For several decades, Egypt was ruled by a harsh dictator. But when Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was elected president in 2014, it seemed that things were about to change in the ancient nation. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi was Egypt’s second democratically elected president. He expressed support for reforms that could offer the people of Egypt more rights. But his devoted religious faith and his military background led him to make decisions that went against many Egyptian people’s wishes. Increasing economic issues and a rising population further complicated his presidency. Part of the World Leaders series, Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of Egypt tells the story of the man who rose to the presidency without great ambition for the office, but who feels strongly that he is the only person who can save the country.
