In the Gospel of Luke, Mary “pondered in her heart” events that changed not just her own life but the life of the entire world (2:51). Her reflections revolved around her daily experience as a woman: pregnancy, birthing, interactions with strangers, family, and husband.
“The ponderings in this volume concern much smaller events than those in Mary’s life. As I walk in the woods or enjoy dinner with a friend, the ordinary occurrences that make up the common events of my life, I contemplate their significance.”
Whether musing on her mother’s Christmas decorations or a Stravinsky concert, Johnson brings her unique theological insights to bear on the situation. Ideal for individual or group use, Johnson’s meditations take us through the seasons of the Earth and the seasons of the church, inviting inward or outward response. Reflection questions are included.
