In a perfect world, everyone would have an over abundance of what they want and need and addiction to shopping and overconsumption wouldn't exist. Is this true? No! According to behavioral scientist Dr. Leland Benton, "more leads to less" and over consumption is causing many of the world's problems today. A Weapon of Massive Consumption describes addiction to shopping and over consumption and it discusses in detail treatment centers, addiction therapies, rehabilitation, treatment for shopping addiction, changing addictive behaviors, the effects of shopping addiction, and impulse control and addiction disorders. Dr. Benton takes you on a walk through history as he describes the destructive nature of over-consumption from the dawn of man to the present day times. We have a moral obligation to teach our children that more actually brings less and this book describes the concept to a tee. It is a compelling treatise that brings its readers to accountability and causes them to examine their own lives. It is a book that should be read slowly and more than once to garner the full benefits of its teachings. Parents should make this a part of family participation time. If you are struggling with financial burdens then you need to read this book. It is too compelling and too important to put down.
