A True Immigration Success Story: From WWII Refuge to Principal at Inter-American begins with the unique journey of a young ethnic German girl born in Hungary who comes to America with her brother Adam and sister Mary to start a new life. Eva Helwing's auto-biographical account is told with exceptional historical detail, knowledge, and depth. Her attention to detail and awareness of world history creates an educational narrative, transporting you to the core of each historical event. As Eva matures, marries and finds her calling as an educator, she ultimately becomes the first principal of Inter-American Magnet School, an award winning Chicago public school focused on bilingual and multicultural education. Helping children, many of who are immigrants themselves, Eva and the staff turn educational theory into reality. Eva's passion and determination, both as a refuge and an educator, make for commanding reading. She fulfilled God's purpose by helping generations of children, many of whom experienced similar immigration challenges in their own lives. Your'll be both enlivened and educated by her story.
