"A Troll in the House" is a wonderful short story that details the journey of a first responder who recognizes a trauma injury, then seeks help and treatment. The creative use of a mischievous troll as the embodiment of trauma allows the reader to follow their path to healing and a peaceful co-existence. It's a serious story for mature readers, that uses allegory and humour to help understand the treatment process needed to live with PTSD.
John Renaud is a military veteran and police officer who shares his story in a way that is accessible to any first responder as well as their family, friends, and loved ones.
This autobiographical tale of trauma, support, and redemption is a must-read for those living with a trauma injury and those who love and care for them.
"David made his decision then and there. He did not like this ugly little troll. He never asked Tamaru to come home with him and live in his house. He never wanted any of this. David decided he was going to bury Tamaru, and that would be the end of the troll. So, that is what he did. What David didn't know was that trolls don't stay buried."
